Lakeway, Texas---Your gateway to Austin! I am very partial to Lakeway because I live here and love it.
(I am constantly updating my website, so please bear with me as I continue to edit content and post updates!! Your comments are welcome!). The new shopping center is here! Click here for a direct link to the Hill Country Galleria. The galleria opened in late October and I must admit, is very cool, despite some local opposition that it would be too big for our town. It's upscale, the shopping is all outdoors, it has an open-air ampetheatre, and sits on a hill, so the views around it are wonderful. It's also quite convenient and eleviates the need to drive into Austin to other shopping areas.
Lakeway, once considered a resort community on the outskirts of Austin, has quickly emerged as the "Gateway" to Austin, Texas. Located in the rolling hills between Lake Travis and the Austin city limits, Lakeway is known as a close-in, suburban community packed with outdoor activities synonymous with Austin's lifestyle. Lakeway is located in Lake Travis ISD. Click here for more information on the Lake Travis School District. Population (at last check) was around 12,000 and growing. Housing starts in the area continue to climb with construction of new, master planned developments, golf courses, and marinas. If you enjoy boating, biking, golfing, swimming or tennis, Lakeway should be at the top of your list when considering one of Austin's suburban communities to call home.
LAKEWAY, TEXAS. Lakeway is a suburb of Austin located on Lake Travis and State Highway 620, five miles west of Mansfield Dam in west Travis County. It was originally founded on the site of a 2,700-acre ranch owned by Houston oilman and rancher Jack (Jake) Josey. Later, an additional 3,697 acres were acquired and in July 1974 a substantial majority of resident and nonresident property owners voted to incorporate with the consent of the city of Austin. The village of Lakeway resulted. The population of Lakeway was 1,020 in 1984. In 1990 the population of Lakeway was 4,044.
Lakeway is now considered the “Gateway to Austin” because of its welcoming, pastoral setting. No longer considered a “resort” community away from Austin, Lakeway is now home to several master-planned communities, marinas, hike and bike trails, golf courses, and shopping, well within a 30 minute commute to Downtown Austin and some of its major employers including Freescale, AMD, Sigmatel, and Silicon Labs. It boasts an acclaimed school district, Lake Travis ISD, and the new Hill Country Galleria at its doorstep in the neighboring community of Bee Cave, Texas.
Lakeway boasts the active lifestyle homebuyers look for when considering a new home community. The weather offers an abundance of opportunity to explore the outdoors year round, but the lake is the center of attention in summer. Carlos & Charlies, Johnny Fins, and The Pier on Lake Travis are just a few restaurants and marinas located on the water for boat enthusiasts. Get ready to relax at the Lakeway Inn Resort and Spa, or drop in to Rocco’s Italian Grill for a happy hour martini on the patio overlooking the golf course. The annual fireworks show is not to be missed, either.
Whether you’re looking for a home near work to raise your growing family, or the empty nester looking for a place to relax, Lakeway has something for everyone! Drive in and take a look around, and give us a call for your personal property tour!
